Temple Grandin is an associate professor of animal science at Colorado State University. She has designed one-third of all livestock handling facilities in the United States with the goal of decreasing the fear and pain animals experience in the slaughter process. She credits her ability to develop animal facilities with the fact that she has autism. Temple Grandin wrote an essay for the This I Believe series on national Public Radio.

I think we can learn a lot about autism from Temple Grandin. Many people with autism are not able to explain how they think and feel about the world. Grandin's writing gives us an window into what other people with autism might be experiencing even though they cannot explain it themselves.
ReplyDeleteOf course, everyone with autism is unique, but I think her experience still rings true for many individuals.
